Mixed Breed
A mixed-breed yakalo is a nonstandard yak-bison hybrid whose exact ancestry may include different yak lines, bison lines, or later-generation hybrid matings. Yakalo itself is an informal name for Bos grunniens × Bison bison crosses, not a widely recognized breed with a fixed type. The mixed-breed label is useful when an animal clearly belongs to that hybrid category but cannot honestly be presented as a specific line, generation, or selected strain.
Management is closer to handling bison or assertive range cattle than keeping small-farm pets. Good facilities reduce the need for force, and strong perimeter fencing is important because mature animals may be athletic, horned, and defensive. Diet is usually based on pasture and hay with minerals appropriate for local soils, but body condition and heat tolerance should be watched. Sellers and breeders should disclose uncertainty in parentage rather than using color or size to imply a more precise identity.
