Dagu
Dagu is a Chinese chicken breed or local type most often described as a native dual-purpose bird from northern China. It is generally presented as a larger village chicken, kept for meat and eggs rather than for a narrow ornamental trait. As with many regional Chinese breeds, the name is tied to place and local breeding history, so outside flocks may show some variation in color, body depth, and production level.
People keeping Dagu chickens should think of them as practical farm poultry rather than high-output industrial birds. They need ordinary chicken housing, dry litter, balanced feed, and room to develop a sturdy frame. Conservation or research flocks should keep clear notes on source region and line history, since Chinese native breeds are often valued for adaptation, meat quality, and genetic diversity that can be lost through careless crossing.
