White
White turkey is a plumage description used across several domestic turkey breeds and strains, not a single identity. It may refer to Broad Breasted White market birds, White Holland, Beltsville Small White, Midget White, or mixed white-feathered flocks. White plumage became common in commercial production because pinfeathers are less visible on the dressed carcass, but the birds themselves can differ sharply in mature size, breast width, fertility, and ability to mate naturally.
Before buying white poults, the key question is whether they are broad-breasted or heritage type. Fast-growing commercial birds are usually raised for a planned processing age and may need controlled feed, low-stress footing, and reproductive assistance in breeding programs. Heritage white turkeys are slower and lighter, with management closer to other farmyard varieties. White birds stand out to predators on range, and show or breeding stock need clean bedding if feather condition matters.
