Crown Tail
Crown tail, more commonly written crowntail, is a domestic betta fin type recognized by the spiky outline created when fin rays extend beyond the webbing. It belongs to Betta splendens in the aquarium trade and can be found in many colors and patterns, from solid black or blue to butterfly, marble, koi, copper, and dragon-scale forms. The trait affects the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, giving the fish a comb-like or crown-like edge rather than a smooth halfmoon or veil outline.
Those extended rays make condition easy to see. Ragged edges, curling, or missing tips can come from genetics, age, poor water, or rough decor, so selection should favor straight, even rays and a fish that swims without strain. Crown tail bettas are typically housed alone unless carefully managed for breeding, because males remain territorial and fin damage happens quickly. Low-flow filtration, soft plants, and steady warm water help maintain the webbing between rays.
