Dragon Scale
Dragon scale bettas are fancy Betta splendens with thick-looking, opaque metallic scaling that can give the body a plated or armored appearance. The effect is usually strongest across the body, often silver, white, copper, or pale gold over a contrasting base color, while the fins may be red, blue, black, butterfly, or another pattern. Dragon scale is a color and scale trait, not a tail type, so it can be combined with halfmoon, delta, plakat, dumbo, crowntail, or double tail forms.
Keepers value the crisp contrast of a good dragon scale, but the same heavy scaling can sometimes grow over the eyes, a condition hobbyists often call diamond eye. Not every dragon scale betta develops vision problems, yet buyers should look closely at both eyes and watch whether the fish tracks food normally. Care should make feeding easy if sight declines: consistent feeding spots, calm tankmates if any, and a layout the fish can learn. Breeders working with dragon lines select for clean coverage, healthy eyes, and strong bodies rather than simply the thickest scale layer, because extreme expression can reduce long-term welfare.
