Veiltail
Veiltail betta fish are Betta splendens with a long caudal fin that sweeps downward in a soft, tapering veil. This is one of the best-known domestic betta fin types and has long been common in pet shops. Unlike the broad, symmetrical fan of a halfmoon or super delta, the veiltail usually has an asymmetrical droop, with less branching in the tail rays. Veiltails occur in nearly every common betta color and pattern, from solid red or blue to marble, butterfly, Cambodian, and metallic lines.
Because their fins are long and flowing, veiltails do best with gentle water movement and smooth plants or decor that will not tear fin edges. They are often hardy aquarium pets, but they still need heated water and should not be kept in tiny unfiltered bowls. Breeders should know that veiltail genetics can reappear in mixed lines, and show-focused programs may avoid them when aiming for halfmoon, plakat, or other standardized finnage.
