Tarsus Çatalburun
The Tarsus Catalburun is a rare pointer from the Tarsus area of Mersin province in Turkey, recognized by its divided or forked nose; catal burun means forked nose in Turkish. Beneath that feature, it is a medium hunting dog with a short coat, drop ears, an athletic body, and a strong scenting style. Local hunters have used it for pointing and retrieving game birds such as quail and partridge, and most knowledge of the breed still comes from regional working circles.
Because the population is small and international recognition is limited, anyone seeking a Tarsus Catalburun should expect careful research and direct questions about source, health, and working ability. The split nose should not be treated as a novelty at the expense of soundness; palate, bite, breathing, and nasal skin all deserve attention. These dogs need field exercise, scent work, and steady training. As with other pointing breeds, secure areas are important until recall and game manners are reliable.
