Brangus

Brangus cattle are a beef composite of Angus and Brahman ancestry, most often described as five-eighths Angus and three-eighths Brahman in registered breeding. The breed was developed in the United States to keep the polled, black-coated, maternal, and carcass qualities of Angus while adding heat tolerance, tick resistance, and range durability from Brahman cattle. Black Brangus are most common, but Red Brangus populations are also well established in separate or related registries. Compared with straight Brahman cattle, Brangus generally show less hump and ear, while still carrying enough tropical adaptation for demanding climates.

Ranchers use Brangus for cow-calf herds, replacement females, and feeder calves that need to perform in hot, humid, or variable forage conditions. They often work well on pasture-based systems with routine mineral supplementation and thoughtful stocking rates. Seedstock buyers usually compare expected progeny differences, fertility records, udder quality, feet, and disposition, since the breed is large enough and strong enough that poor temperament is costly. Brangus bulls are also common in crossbreeding programs where producers want polled calves and Angus-influenced beef traits without giving up too much resilience.
