Philippine Native
Philippine Native cattle are a group of indigenous and locally adapted cattle types found across the Philippines rather than one tightly uniform show breed. They are usually small to moderate in size and shaped by tropical heat, island movement, village farming, and long use in mixed agricultural households. Depending on region, animals may show local names, zebu influence, and variation in color, horns, body size, and production level.
These cattle are important because they fit smallholder conditions where purchased feed, large barns, and intensive veterinary support may be limited. Owners may keep them for meat, draught history, manure, calf sales, or family milk, often using native grasses and crop residues. Conservation work should document the island or province of origin, visible type, and family performance, since crossing with larger imported breeds can improve some outputs while reducing local adaptation that took generations to develop.
